people say bluesky is nutjob politics headquarters but the fact that rfk jr has been hilariously unable to establish even a single supporter on here is sorta evidence against that

HOLY SHIT HE DID THIS
Kendrick is going to do a We Are The World with every hip hop artist but it's just one giant Drake diss track that goes on for like 30 minutes

This is actually true. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
this is the first time I’ve seen the federalist discussed in years, which really tells you something about how hard they had to stretch to even get a brief mention in the conversation. they’re like seeing one of those old b listers you thought died years ago pop up in a verizon commercial
Right-Wing Media Are in Troublewww.theatlantic.com The flow of traffic to Donald Trump’s most loyal digital-media boosters isn’t just slowing; it’s utterly collapsing.

At least one staffer is the guy who used to post random pictures of women’s feet
I'd go to a church where Dolly is the preacher. I would not say that of any Federalist staffer.

This is the same publication that wrote an homage to Hugh Hefner, because “sin” is relative
Morbid curiosity got the best of me, and I read this. The argument is literally that Dolly Parton is a fake, destructive Christian because despite a lifetime of kindness, decency, philanthropy, and spreading joy around the world, she won’t explicitly condemn gay people for their wickedness.

If you’ve followed this case, this checks out.
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Suspect in Long Island’s Gilgo Beach serial killings is charged in the deaths of two more women.

My grandfather, Oscar Coaston, before he left for the Second World War, had his first professional photographs taken. (The second photo is him and his mother.) He was a crew chief for the 320th Barrage Balloon Unit on D-Day.

He is not Baba Yaga! Bad things do happen to him!
and the thing is, this is false! when faced with consequences trump wilts away! when his opponents relentlessly hit him on scandal he declines with the broader public! it as if everyone treats the fact that he is the first incumbent in 30 years to lose reelection as a tidbit and not a critical fact!

It's hard to evaluate because most people who claim to be profitable sports gamblers are touts (people who actually make money selling gambling tips to other gamblers, often in outright scammy ways)
Avatar
There are occasionally stories that come out about legit successful gamblers (usually using enormous bankrolls and sophisticated algorithms), like the syndicate that cracked Hong Kong horse racing www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...
The Gambler Who Cracked the Horse-Racing Codewww.bloomberg.com Bill Benter did the impossible: He wrote an algorithm that couldn’t lose at the track. Close to a billion dollars later, he tells his story for the first time.

The horrible confluence of “gambling addicts” and “people who are very bad at gambling”
I don't really care much about men's professional sports but it sure seems like all the gambling everywhere is, uhh, having an impact?

Oh that’s not a typo.
I’m guessing the “eats 6,4000 calories” a day is a typo, but even 6,400 is hard to imagine.

YES THANK YOU
Times weren’t better back then. You were just in your carefree youth and are missing that time now. We tend to claim that music, fashion, TV, and society peaked when you were in your teens. It’s not the world it’s you that you are melancholic about.

It’s not just that JN’s videos get longer and better, it’s that every one begins with the same disappointed “So…”
Me: You know, most movies don’t need to be longer than an hour and a half unless it’s really thoughtful and interesting. Also me: Hell yeah, I’ll watch a four hour video about a failed theme resort hotel.

If there's one message I wish I could convey to every single politics posting addict, it's that there is nothing ennobling about being miserable. One of the nice things about doing therapy is realizing there aren't any good principled reasons for feeding your own depression.

I’d rather hear another Chumba Casino ad and Chumba Casino ads are going to drive me to commit murder
One of my podcasts keeps running ads for the Amy Winehouse biopic and “I ain’t no Spoyce Guhl” has become my most hated trailer line since “fall collection. IKEA.”

I will say that AI transcription has not yet come to term with “wind” or “muttering” but this is a great step
as someone who often takes a walk and partially "writes" my columns out loud by dictating to voice memos, i would find this very useful www.theverge.com/2024/5/10/24...
Apple might bring AI transcription to Voice Memos and Noteswww.theverge.com It sure looks like AI is coming to the iPhone.

Prosecutors can mostly get away with racial exclusion in jury selection as long as they don't do stuff like write "Jew?" in their notes. Which has been a tougher rule for many of them to follow than you'd think. www.nytimes.com/2024/05/13/u...
Exclusion of Jewish Jurors Prompts Review of California Death Row Caseswww.nytimes.com Dozens of cases are under review after notes from jury selection in a 1990s murder case indicated that prosecutors worked to exclude Jews.
