*huge sigh of relief* *SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS FULL ACCESS TO MIFEPRISTONE ABORTION PILL

HOLY CRAP THOMAS CONCURRED?!!?
Avatar
y'all it was a unanimous opinion

These judges are politicians and they are very worried that their actions are sparking an effort to curtail their power. This fear should be the baseline for the country's relationship with SCOTUS, and I'm glad that the shift that direction is getting results.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's JUST rejected based on standing? Still vulnerable to another challenge if they gin up a plausible harm?
Avatar
I assume they're just waiting for a case with a different angle.
Avatar
there really...isn't? not for mife.

Especially with the Alito and Thomas stuff coming out right now I’m guessing they’re thinking to themselves, “Let’s pump the brakes right now”. Plus there’s little constituency for mifepristone bans and a major election fast approaching.
Avatar
There is at least an effort ongoing to impose an ethics code that's enforceable. Clarence is not happy about that, I'm sure.
Avatar
So stripped of all the legalese, if I’m reading it correctly, the opinion is “this is bullshit and never should have made it this far, the plaintiffs lack standing, and why are you making us do this?”

Did the anti people hire the NCAA's lawyers?
Avatar
Maybe they're worried about another anchor for the GOP this November.
Avatar
Absolutely but it's kind of a double bind; I can see this decision depressing The Crazies
Avatar
hell yeah, cyberbullying the justices actually works 🫡🥰💪

That concurrence is going to have some deep evil buried in it
Avatar
at this point I'll take buried deep evil.

Even Thomas can see the shitstorm that would ensue if "I have standing to sue because I don't like what other people are doing" became law.
Avatar
*checks window to hell Huh, that's more snow than I've seen in years.
Avatar
He did it in part so he could smirk and use the word “abortionist” multiple times before moving to the associative standing thingy.
Avatar
Well he did have to append his little ceterum censeo but yes.
Just for plausible deniability so he can claim to be impartial in future cases.
Avatar
They know the ramifications of things in the long term. This is why I am cautiously optimistic about the immunity case. The Supremes understand that giving Presidents unlimited immunity destroys their power to control policy in the US.
Avatar
No but they will hold off on ruling until the cases that depend on it won't be able to happen before the election
Avatar
Avatar
oh wow, thats surprising.

Getting news notifications about SCOTUS are like getting notifications from your bank. You just assume the worst and then are presently surprised when its just a normal statement about your checking account
Avatar
This one feels a little like the time the bank sent my dad a statement showing his nine-digit account number as his account balance. Metaphorically speaking, I was basically telling my dad to go get an abortion, just to see if the court is serious.
Avatar
Right. They did the bare minimum under the law of Article III standing. Not moderate at all.
Avatar
Until plaintiffs with real standing show up. This lawsuit was absurd and only survived because of the insane 5th court.
Avatar
Please share who the plaintiff with standing would be
Avatar
A patient who claims to have suffered actual harm from taking Mifepristone.
Avatar
Have you looked at the numbers on how many people that could hypothetically be

Do not forget they still have Comstock to eff us all
