The old joke about asking for directions and getting the answer "well, I wouldn't start from here" pops into my head when I think about just about anything going on these days.

Q. What do you call it when a cowboy serves a bunch of cured meats and cheeses on a piece of wood? A. A sharp-shootery board!

Today I turn 39. I'm dealing with it the sensible way - by reacquainting myself with 14 years of deeply personally solo show art comedy, and meeting myself at all different times of my adult life. Why, how would YOU deal with it? By having a nice times?

I’ve just scheduled next Monday’s episode of Sound Heap with @jlukeroberts.bsky.social and it’s got a bit that’s so genuinely beautiful and heartwarming that I tear up a little every time I hear it.

I've been writing Deathbed Limericks. I'm not on my deathbed, so I leave the last line of each one unfinished. When I'm dying, I’ll finish them. If I die at short notice, they’ll stay as they are. More up in this week's Wordings newsletter jlukeroberts.substack.com/p/wordings-f...

remind me, when companies create an actual revolutionary technology that is going to change the world, do they usually have to beg users to adopt it, give it away for free for years, and at last resort force it on people with no way to disable it? Is that usually how revolutionary tech works?

Wait, I'm an idiot - the most plausible mythical creature is the dachshund.
What do you think the most plausible mythical creature is? I think it's the jackalope, but the unicorn is close behind.

sir, it is not "woke" that makes you not enjoy a fifty-minute documentary about men who trick women into relationships by pretending to play shrek in a touring production of the musical shrek.

My aunt (who is a nun) called to say she has listened to this episode, and thinks it's very good, although she doesn't know who Shrek is (but has worked out he's someone famous). maximumfun.org/episodes/sou...
