Miniature or Giant?
I'm not big on mini schnauzers (my mom ADORES them), but a giant schnauzer would be a handful for a 10-year-old.
Then again, if you can handle a schnauzer at 10 years old, you can pretty much handle any dog when you grow up.
Robert Conquest noticed in the 70s that in a lot of left activist writing, the word "essentially" has a sense which is usually expressed in normal prose by the word "not", and "dog ownership is essentially settler colonialist" seems like a perfect example.

Hear me out tho- fireflies are literally crossing the day/night boundary by introducing light into spaces where nocturnal creatures need darkness to keep themselves safe from predators. Idk but that just doesn't sit right with me. Your mating behavior isn't more important than another bug's safety.
