Hoover’s last week in Texas includes a trip this morning to Fort Worth’s own Lake Como. Como used to have its own fancy trolley park back in the day, but it fell into serious decline. The city recently added this water walkway across the park.

My foster Hoover leaves Texas next week to go up north to a new home, and I am going to miss him. But I am also glad we got to save him from the code red list for a better future. I really hope his new family sends pictures!

I have to do an IRB today so I’m doing anything else.

I have gotten into a serious buffalo sauce kick. Buffalo sauce on hot dogs, in chicken salad… what else is that is not obvious but delicious can I put Buffalo sauce with?

Of all the way to block sidewalks, holly bushes are among the worst.

Installed a backyard fountain today. Imagine a garden bed to go all around it.

Not only is this pure evil, it is also a fucking stupid and expensive policy practice to lock up those unhoused.

As a side note, this is John McEntee, Trump's Director of White House Personnel and the primary architect of Project 2025. On Tik Tok he said he gives counterfeit bills to homeless people so they will be arrested when they go to spend them.

Stop doing free labor. And anybody in any kind of university admin job, stop asking your colleagues to do free labor.

This is spot on & only worsening for many of us US professors with too many administrative, supervision, research, outreach, etc responsibilities while we’re off-contract (not paid) for the 3 summer months. With zero ability to unionize. I’ve been a faculty in both the UK & US, it’s worse here.😢

Do y’all actually want that guy to vote? I’m all for democracy but if he wants to sit a few rounds out…

Just FYI, any PSA chapter advisors attending the business meeting at APSA can request a small travel stipend from us. It’s not much, but wanted to let you know, if applicable!

My plans for my research/travel funds this year means I can either run the survey experiment for APSA or pay (some of the way) to go to APSA.

Starting a walking challenge in July in Texas where it is 100+ degrees is not my smartest idea but day 1 done.

I’m not putting in to teach Intro to American Politics ever again.

My university has a snow room with school colored flurries for athletes.

You see this at the University level constantly; they claim not to have money to fund programs that might actually help students but there’s always $100m for the absolute dumbest shit you’ve ever heard of and when it inevitably fails they’re like welp better close the classics department

One consequence of the SC ruling on homelessness is that it further centers jails (esp rural jails) as THE social service provider in communities. That's... bad. AND it means that sheriffs make policy decisions abt who gets these services. Their individual attitudes matter for these decisions:
