I CANNOT BELIEVE WE ARE A COUNTRY WHERE GEORGE HW BUSH LOST A CRITICAL DEBATE JUST FOR LOOKING AT HIS WRISTWATCH AND WE’RE STILL HEMMING AND HAWING OVER OUR OPTIONS HERE
Avatar
He hasn’t done “lots of” unscripted, hour-plus–long and/or evening events.
The debate was bad but he’s done lots of public events since then and been basically fine. Old, but basically fine. But at this point it’s insane claims like “he can’t campaign” or “he can’t finish a sentence” he has to rebut, media-driven claims with no basis in reality.

His campaign and party can't message against the horror show of the GOP and the looming threat of Trump's return, because they don't see them as threats TO THEM. They will be ok with the end of all progress of the last century, because they tried.
This is shockingly solipsistic. And dangerous.

I’ve been watching/rewatching it. And I’m old enough to remember how George HW Bush was raked over the coals for the faux pas of looking at his watch during a debate or town hall. Biden’s answers were……..mostly just not enough for besting his opponent. His affect, however, was disqualifying.
the problem is that most Americans didn’t watch the debate, and the ones that did aren’t going to rewatch it, which means their “recollection” is actually just what they’re hearing about it, which is that Biden was catatonic and couldn’t talk for 90 minutes

Meanwhile, at Current Affairs: www.currentaffairs.org/news/biden-i... www.currentaffairs.org/news/the-bid...
It’s very, very clear that the loudest voices calling most excitedly for this remedy are not especially politically sophisticated or even worried about Biden losing - that’s why they didn’t freak for the months of lagging polls and why they’re doing nonsense fantasy-draft replacement picks.

This is just being mean about someone who has an elaborate prose style and is applying it to extemporaneous speech. It’s actually not so bad!

Here is someone who LITERALLY TODAY WAS GRANTED THE POWERS OF A GOD, who is on record decrying when protestors accidentally broke a random window on a college campus, telling us to take the law into our own hands because he himself wishes to do nothing.
Biden saying that the American people(!!!!!) have to do what the Courts have refused to do—hold Trump accountable—…what does that even mean, dawg? We’re supposed to throw him in jail ourselves?!

It’s incredibly frustrating that elected Democrats’ answer to EVERY governmental failure is “Well it’s now up to the people.”

Some years from now a memoir by or about Kamala Harris will reveal her to have been Edith Wilsoning for Biden for a significant chunk of his first term, won’t it? And that of course will explain the accusations that she’s been, in one way or another, sitting on her hands as VP these past four years.

How in God’s name is “vote for Joe or, hm, well” on a primary ballot MORE democratic than “Here’s half a dozen options to choose from, all of whom are actually viable options at this point” at a convention???
