Agreed. Also the pine barrens is a beautiful place.

It always amazes me that people don't know there's an entire vast wilderness smack in the middle of New Jersey and if they do, the only thing they associate with it is the Jersey Devil.

I teach a course in ag/food policy, and I always laugh/cry at the NJ stereotype. We have family there and the carload of fresh produce etc. we come home with every time we visit is just amazing.

It's an absolutely beautiful state with a bad reputation that's held almost entirely by people who have never seen it in person.

My favorite beach town in the state

Anything to do or you recommend besides the beach? Sand is coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. We rent a BIG house and cram ~17 of us into it. Past years were in Avalon or Stone Harbor.

For restaurants Tommy's hot dogs is absolutely worth the line and Mad Batter pancakes are worth the line too. Peter Shields is amazing if you like a very high end expensive dinner. Also great is Grana, Washington Inn, Ebbitt Room

Do the Hike: Cape May Point, Cape May Loop, and Cedar Swamp Trail – Do The Shoredotheshore.com On the other side of the county all the way in Marmora hides another short, but dense with views, trail through swampy land. This trail is as easy as it gets, but can be very buggy in the summertime. ...

Also the lighthouse is fun. Or you can take the ferry accross the bay to the Delaware state Park.

there used to be a great empanada place on the road between wildwood and cape may (can't recall the name), but it didn't survive the pandemic. used to stay in wildwood crest, but have now grown up to avalon, and i love that i live 150 miles up the parkway and can vacation in my state.

I absolutely love the lobster house. I haven't been in a while as the whole area is so unbelievably expensive

Also, just: The Jersey Shore and Atlantic City wouldn't have been what they are if people didn't like going there. Often people not from New Jersey.
