On 4/10/19, NASA released the first direct image of a black hole. It was SPECTACULAR, but so is this photo of team member Katie Bouman, taken when she first saw the black hole image (she wrote the algorithm for stitching together data from radio telescope observations) 🧪🔭 girlgeek.io/katherine-l-...

I hate how the only fictional part is the end :/
The King of England lies dying and one of his sons has been exiled. A princess has vanished. Plague stalks the land and the Treasury has been plundered. NOW is the time for strange women lying in ponds to distribute swords to form the basis of government.

Now that I've got my feet wet with Observable Framework, it's time to bring an old friend into the mix. #RStats #WebR plays *super* well with #Framework, especially with some of the level-ups George & team have been baking in to the latest versions. Code + live example this weekend!

The countries of the world made a plan to save nature by conserving 30% of their area. For Climate Lab, I looked at the database the UN uses to track progress on the goal. Lots areas are small, contorted and narrow. Can we save nature with crazy shapes? www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

So great to hear you’ve decided to take a stand against book censorship. Does this mean you’ll be dropping your lawsuit against libraries, too?

I think we’ve learned an important lesson today, which is: If you ever run a media company, do not ever create a situation where your poetry editor might have cause to write a resignation letter, because it will scorch you from the face of the earth.
Anne Boyer has resigned as the poetry editor of the New York Times magazine: “Because our status quo is self-expression, sometimes all artists have left is to refuse. So I refuse.”
