That makes sense. When you made the new feed, did you lose everyone who followed the original feed? Yeah I've filtered out some stuff already based on what I've seen come through.

I used blueskyfeeds.com. It's a list of keywords so far. It looked like I had to pick one type. I may go in and try to add select users and hashtags to beef it up. Not much showing up yet.

I learned today that there are no regulations for food served in shelters, beyond safe and sanitary, except for food funded by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

I’m starting a feel dive on food at homeless shelters and food insecurity. Please let me know if you have expertise or lived experience (if comfortable sharing!) or know of resources—links, authors, books, articles. Thanks! DM or Discord (danboleo) if you don’t want to share here.

That makes sense. I imagine this is the most common model, though shelters also get donations directly from individuals.

Yes, SNAP benefits are way too low. I'm specifically talking here about meals served at homeless shelters, not food benefits used to purchase food, or even food picked up at pantries. People in shelters have to rely on what the shelter feeds them. Is it enough?

The 'Arlington VA' feed is doing really well usage-wise since I started investing more effort into it a month ago & shut down the old one. Thank you to everyone using it! Keep up the work and engaging with neighbors you find through it: liking their posts, commenting, & being positive. 🙏

I'm back working on the "Arlington VA" feed after being busy w/ life. Pulls from 90+ local Arlingtonians (30% regularly active!). Prioritizes original posts but now also some random replies so even #QuietPosters show up. Also looks for keywords of neighborhood names & local websites. Sub & use it!

Arlington, VA. I volunteer at the local food pantry. I could ask them what food they provide to local shelters.

It's not an assumption. It's my impression from reading a couple studies and glancing at a number of other studies I've saved to read.

My initial impression is that food provided at shelters is, uh, really not good enough.
