I think most consumer goods should have a government funded BASELINE version that's either free or absurdly cheap. Bicycle? Have a shitty 2-speed. Smartphone? Right this way we cut so many corners and its slow but now you have access to the smartphone economy. Bank account? Yes we do that too.

Is there a German word meaning “disappointed even unto rage but not in the least surprised” or something in that neighborhood?
