I think it kind of works to convey what a dirtbag Al is that he’s married to someone out of his league in every way and is still sort of “awww the ol ball and chain” about her
“Mixed-weight couples” is a disturbing phrase. And yes, I could name at least 6 sitcoms off the top of my head that star schlubs or idiots with pretty wives.
That was my thinking, as a fat woman, that weight is only one factor most people use in rating attractiveness. Being fat doesn't automatically make one a 3. Also, where is this discourse when the male member of the couple is the fat one?
My incredibly unpopular opinion is that Colin was just incredibly boring and that’s what was wrong with it? Nicola Coughlan is gorgeous and brilliant but even she couldn’t make up for the lack of charisma.
There's some good points elsewhere in the thread about the hypocrisy of "mixed-weight relationships" being fine the other way around, but it also bears mentioning that not only are you right, but that she'd be regarded as the hottest one in the cast in the period depicted, as body norms have changed
