This is real. This is what the House GOP is doing next week.

The Liberty In Laundry Act

You'll have to pry mine from my (literally) cold, dead hands.

Is your refrigerator running? These brave legislators will go out and catch it.
Avatar
I was expecting them to mandate natural gas piping in all residential buildings so they can use propane-powered fridges and install gaslighting.
Avatar
It's not even grammatical! The clause "or a residential freezer that not technologically feasible" lacks the verb it needs to parse!

The Prosecute Woke Fridges Act
Avatar
It is my god given right to have a diesel powered fridge.
Avatar
That fridge better also have a gun installed cause this is America
Avatar
Lol okay Canadian spy. In America the fridges ARE guns.

I for one, strongly support the Refrigerator Freedom Act. Because... reasons.
Avatar
On the bright side: at least maybe they've learned what the Department of Energy does?
Avatar
Still don’t think they know about all the nuclear security or research stuff.
Avatar
Insisting on their god-given right to pay more for electricity than they have to
Avatar
Republicans think the Rosenfeld Effect is evil.
Avatar
Avatar
“Big, firm… shelves”
Avatar
ok but i want that vegetable crisper thing and the rolling shelves
Avatar
I am not a lawyer but does anyone think that those proscriptions would, you know, prevent ANYTHING from happening?
Avatar
"...prevents enforcing energy-efficiency standards" O.K, right-wingers, have the "freedom" to pay MORE for electricity to "own the libs", I guess 🤷

🎶 To LG and to Westinghouse Let my fridges go Lest they impose efficiencies Let my fridges go Haier, Samsung E'en unto Electrolux Tell that gov'ment Let my fridges go! [Apol.s to Anon.]😊
Avatar
So I'm reading the stuff about being costly and unjustified as applying to the appliances
Avatar
Applies just as well to the GOP.
Avatar
Cool story brah. (Pun absolutely intended). At this point maybe these GOPpers should actually say what these standards should be? They complain too much about unelected bureaucracies making law, yet can’t seem to too much of the hard work themselves.
Avatar
"And for other purposes"
Avatar
came here to say this part is absurdly funny to me for some reason
Avatar
Literally nobody in the appliance industry asked for this because it means manufacturing for US standards which are different from the rest of the world
Avatar
It's like when the car industry told the Trump administration they were going too far in deregulation
Avatar
When I wash my clothes I want it to use a shit load of water and energy, God dammit
Avatar
If only they'd called it Liberty *of* Laundry it would be the LOL Act
Avatar
Load-bearing “and for other purposes” right there.
Avatar
This is especially appalling given the fact that Ukraine is now out of bullets.
Avatar
So it IS all about ensuring household energy consumption
Avatar
I dunno, I kinda would like hands free home appliances. "Alexa, do the laundry."
Avatar
My dream. I still can't really get the robot to vacuum without watching it.
Avatar
I have the same problem with my grown son.
Avatar
Yeah we had one of those for awhile. Eventually got tired of vacuuming after the robot vacuum because it either (a) got stuck in a corner, (b) got stuck on a cord, or (c) ran out of battery trying to get out from under our couch.
Avatar
Stupid software makes stupid robots.
Avatar
“Jane, stop this crazy thing!!!!”
Avatar
I want to get texts when my washer and dryer complete their cycles. I want my old ones to develop this function via spontaneous generation.
Avatar
"You can pry these Tide Simply + Oxi Boost + Odor Defense Liquid Laundry Detergent w/ Fresh Linen Scent PODS® from my cold, dead hands...."
Avatar
Avatar
No more of those woke labels - as a free American citizen I can eat them if I want to!
Avatar
Ok so, aside from the pure terribleness of this, are each of these focused on one appliance? Why not one bill focused on all appliances? Or are they each named for a particular appliance but apply to all appliances?
Avatar
Avatar
Honestly if they focused on this shit instead of trying to take away people's rights all the time, I think they'd be considerably more popular.
Avatar
True. Instead of mocking perhaps we should be cheering. It's still a bit too thematically close to putting women back in the kitchen, pregnant, with old fashioned appliances.
