Just ran into the most thin-skinned college professor I've seen around here. Also had no idea why statistics are useful to people, which is fine, but you don't get to not understand it and be arrogant about it. But it happens when your day-to-day is students.
The response to "we'll be violent if you lock him up" is "yea, that's scary, but you're also violent if the coffee siren doesn't say Merry Christmas, so we've decided just to fight back."
A lot of religious texts just talk about real things in symbolic ways (which is why Hugo's use of religion as symbol for reality is so powerful). For instance, the Antichrist is shrouded in mysticism, but it's just really about a guy like Trump.
I used to teach very basic crytography as part of my math classes, so I want to understand what happened, but there's no way I'm going to. I'm so glad I'm not teaching that anymore and getting questions on it.
I wake up most mornings in a rage that Ds in control of both chambers took no steps whatsoever to not seat/expel under 14a insurrectionists in their ranks. Big mistake to have chosen leadership based on seniority rather than seeking wartime leadership. We needed a war cabinet.
I feel like we already lost. Even if Biden wins in 2024, which looks harder to do every day, does it matter? When this much of the population wants fascism, and this many will threaten whoever he wants threatened, how do we work as a county?
There's a certain logic out there that says, well, stupid libs care about preventing fascism, we don't, so nominate our person and the libs will vote for them, but we don't give a shit so we won't vote for a lib. Hostage-taker logic.
the thing with caving to bigotry, besides being unconscionable, is that it actually makes things worse for you politically
it signals to people that the bigots have a point - and if that’s true, well, why wouldn’t they go with the people screaming about it the loudest if it’s such a problem?
Obama both a) was us breaking the contract they imagined we had, where "they" can vote, with suppression, but not be in charge, and b) a thoroughly traumatic experience for them that broke their brains and left them unable to participate in society rationally. You need to acknowledge both.
The TNC thesis that Trump is an expression of white backlash to the Obama presidency feels right, and I don’t know why people need to link it to foreign traditions of fascism, which there are plenty of, to feel an urgency about opposing it.
Yep the next time they want to make a Black person the editor of the Harvard Law Review they’re going to have a *long* conversation about optics and politics etc. and they’ll probably have to spend some resources if they follow through. They’re raising the cost of accepting Black people in spaces.
When I was in law school, a clerkship was the thing, and a Supreme Court clerkship the ultimate. Not just for the types who knew the AmLaw rankings by heart, but for the real nerds. It's hard to imagine that type even wanting one anymore, gotta be all people looking for $400k from JD or KE now.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott:
"What they mean by DEI in my opinion is duly elected incumbent. We know what they want to say, but they don’t have the courage to say the N-word."

What they ignore is that if anyone wanted to engage in terrorism to shut down transportation, it would probably be the sorts of people who engage in terrorism to shut down power grids and who regularly plot to shut down transportation in other ways, i.e. the right.
Just take Trump off the general election ballot close to the election. When people say the Supreme Court said not to do that, scream "Purcell" in their faces.
"Christie may seem anti-Trump, but he's still a Republican/conservative." That's what we want. We want conservatives to recognize the danger. I don't understand gatekeeping opposition to fascism.
We need more people voting for Biden for this specific reason. It's not enough to support Biden, and it's not enough for Biden to win. He needs to win because of what Trump is, or else we'll continue to live with this sword over our heads.
We need people to wake up to the threat. It isn't enough to win. If Biden wins on other messages, there will not be pressure from voters to do something about this, and there will be another 4 years of fear before an election that may tip us into fascism. We need people to care about this.
New, from me:
Biden has forgiven $144 billion in student loan debt, and his SAVE IDR can reduce student loan debt in the long run.
Will Biden get credit for this? If Trump returns, he will roll back or undermine these debt reduction programs.

This melted candle of a man is filling his diaper because Joe Biden told the truth.
Going high is why we got Trump and why the SCOTUS is what it is today. Fuck off Frank.

Leaving a presidential candidate off the ballot is so "draconian" that most candidates fail to make 50 states and DC. So draconian it happens to the vast majority of candidates. Who do not engage in insurrection, by the way.
