Yeah…. This is one of many reasons ATX is no longer quite the blue bubble people thought it was. It’s interesting to see the housing market this summer in my neighborhood. A lot for sale, lots sitting and prices dropping substantially.

Yeah. The whole "state says the city isn't allowed to protect people within it" thing with masks is part of what solidified my decision to detach entirely from Texas. I love a lot of things about Austin, but... it's still under that authority.

(And yeah the house we sold this spring in Austin went for a /lot/ less than it would've two years ago. But we priced it to move, and it moved, which was more important.)

I have been really interested in the housing market in my general area. A lot of ppl are trying to get a lot more than they paid 4-5 years ago, not grasping that in TX it’s a buyer’s market now. But ppl are cutting prices so clearly want to sell.

When I got the UT job, I told myself that ATX wasn’t “really” TX. That delusion could be sustained pretty well until 2020. But then it all fell apart, not just the politics and state interference in local politics but the grid and other infrastructure. Sure, you can get yourself off the grid but…

Friends who moved from near me have had their house on the market nearly a year. I think 2-3 viewings total. It’s bad

The problem in my neighborhood is that they are significantly overpriced. My next door neighbor bought in 2019 at $850. No significant improvements at all. Had it on the market for $1.5. My guess is that they’ll be lucky to get between 1-1.1. Still a big profit.

It’s interesting to see that stuff that is fairly priced is moving. A house near me went for $1.5 but it had a bunch of stuff neighbor’s house doesn’t. A fixer-upper went for 1.5 bc gorgeous property and it just needs interior update. But ppl think it’s 2021 in general.

Yup… I was watching the lege regularly for higher Ed stuff and in the process heard them discuss a bunch of other stuff, pass things that were cruel, blatantly unconstitutional, etc. Thankfully a lot died in committee but not the water break bill—which is just insane.

I lived 3 years in Austin without A/C (1990’s). Barton Springs to lower the core temp. It’s hotter now.
