This is so important and valuable. A way to get "Google search without the crap." Notably AI crap, which destroys G-search utility. Intro'd here: tedium.co/2024/05/17/g... In practice: After a Google search, click on "Web." You'll get the de-crapped results.
How I Made Google’s “Web” View My Default Searchtedium.co Forget AI. Google just created a version of its search engine free of the extra junk it has added over the past decade-plus. You just need one URL parameter.

It is not infeasible that Google implemented this feature so that the people who work at Google...can actually use Google. (edited to fix typo)

@brooklynmarie.bsky.social I just figured out another thing. Someone recently pointed out how using "before:2023" gets rid of junk, but it also disables snippets without skipping current webpages if you use a year in the future. This method doesn't need javascript. www.google.com/search?q=bef...
before:2200 hello world - Google Searchwww.google.com

This option might be better or worse. It removes the fake q&a junk, but it doesn't leave out video or image results if there actually is a good match. Links are also slightly different? 1. Crappified full google 2. Umd14 thing 3. Before:2200

We should also try to stop using Google

This needs to be an extension in Firefox

I just changed it in Firefox mobile. In Ff, go to Settings, under General select Search, select Add Search Engine, give it a title and in URL paste "https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14". Hit Save, and for Default Search Engine select your newly named link.

I love this idea, but I'm not seeing the "web" link they've described. :(

Probably need to click on "More"
Avatar
Yep that's what the piece says "It looks like the Google we learned to love in the early 2000s, buried under the "More" menu..."
Avatar
Trying it out and how do you DO it really did return clean results that look like the reliable, relevant Google from a decade or so ago

Could you do this with safari on mobile? I already have ublock blocking the element that shows the AI but I can’t block it on mobile :(

Thanks for this very excellent tip!

Eh. You’re still giving them clicks. Just dump Google and use something else.

I've been disappointed recently by DDG even though it has been my go-to for years. Using Bing search engine means feeding a different AI LLM with my searches. So I keep using my quotes and Boolean operators to sometimes comic effect. Tiresome that so much is now more difficult to find than needs be.

It's not too stable for me (works sometimes, not others). It seems to work just as often with the udm tag before the search term, so it can be plugged into stuff waiting for a search term to be added to the end of this: www.google.com/search?udm=1... ... = www.google.com/search?udm=1...
test - Google Searchwww.google.com

It appears to ignore the web tag if javascript is off?

Use duck duck go. It is easier to use, and doesn't save your searches.

Yes, I use and like DDG much of the time.
