Struggling to edit your own work? Here’s what I did… 1. I wrote a dozen or so stories in 2020. 2. I shelved them and started a magazine which I have edited for four years. 3. I returned to them and realized that they aren’t any good. 4. I trunked them and started fresh.

Morning all. Here's a fictional offering to help you ease into the week. This week, a comedic fantasy about two thieves trying to steal from a wizard's two. So basically, me doing silly voices for 7 minutes. Enjoy! open.substack.com/pub/jonathan...

Well, that's another week done. What better way to celebrate that with a short-short story about two incompetent thieves and a wizard's tower? I certainly can't think of one... open.substack.com/pub/jonathan...

I wrote a surreal, anxious story featuring my recurring character Ernestine Boggs. In her fifth appearance in print, she enters a certain door and then begins to see a tangible manifestation of her consciousness. This was a tough one to write, but I'm proud to share it at the excellent Cosmorama:

It feels like today might be a bit of a hangover day for both the US and the UK. So here to help is a little distraction: a very short story about a man discovering he's looking for a way out (also with mechanical foxes). open.substack.com/pub/jonathan...

We're just a little over a month out from my little queer romantasy becoming a real book! We're recording the audiobook right now! I'm working on Book III! But most importantly, the elevator pitch:

It's not always about quantity with a book haul, it's about quality too. Picked these up at the Gold Coast Book Fair. Loved the panel discussion with both @natcassidy.bsky.social and Cassandra Khaw. Fascinating to hear about how both books come at wealth disparity from totally different angles.

Happy Friday! Have a story. This week: a post-apocalyptic world, a mechanical god whose breaking down, and giant mutant monsters to fight. Please share if you dig it. open.substack.com/pub/jonathan...

Hello! You made it to Friday so here's a story. Great job, you. Now kick back, relax, and listen to whatever nonsense idea I had around people using a siren's song to get high. Please share and subscribe :) open.substack.com/pub/jonathan...
