I spent probably fifteen years with painfully miscalibrated expectations for myself because I didn't really get that 3/4 of any given library was written by people with a day job.
The majority of people flatly do not understand — and would be honestly shocked by! — how little money most publicly known writers make

95 story rejections so far this year. Likely won't crack my goal of 200 unless I start recklessly simsubbing like some litfic profligate or write much, much faster. But I can still be real happy with my 95.

Update: I got that specific subgenre into goddamn Analog. Turns out I just needed some patience with myself.
Were those six weak stories only flukes or training wheels, or can I just...not...write that specific subgenre?

My story of Homo erectus horror, innovation, cannibalism, and OCD magic wound up being a self-contained short story rather than a novella. It found a home in the upcoming TASTEFUL charity anthology to benefit a food bank. Oh by the way-
The horror novella project is in here somewhere:

For years I've watched a ton of people get bullied off social media/sites/forums because people held them responsible for shit they didn't do/say/embody/create. Usually it was a big/rich entity that made those calls. Usually there's racism & sexism at play. Let's fucking not keep that going here.

Would love to see this. Now I keep wondering what an adaptation of The Employees or A Short Stay in Hell or The Silence of the Wilting Skin could look like.
Ooh, y’know what would be neat a sci-fi/fantasy anthology show where each episode adapts a different recent novella. I think I’d enjoy that quite well, thank you very much.
