Ma'am, the holiday is known as National Get Your Friends and Family Hooked on N. K. Jemisin Day. Which I'm proud to say I did with my daughter, then a geology grad student (and now waiting for PhD conferral next month).
Not for nothing, but I just finished the trilogy (like, minutes ago), and it's *easily* one of the best things I've ever read. Thanks for writing such fresh, authentic, beautiful stuff.
YES of course it is on both lists! Masterful prose, masterful storytelling, incredible world, characters so deep and colorful that you SEE them (and in the case of Schaffa recoil away).
Fifth Season is what I read if I am hankering to write 2nd person and need the ideal reference for doing it well
I had read only a small 5 of the list compared to my wife's 57 in that NYT list, but importantly The Fifth Season was one of the 5. Probably reread the trilogy before I get to 10/100.
Was in the car yesterday with my younger kid and he was asking me all kinds of favorites questions: Fave movie, fave song. He asked fave book and I thought long and hard about it because I read a lot of books. And then I said "The Fifth Season," and then we talked about it for the rest of the drive.
