more to the point none of the coverage seems to note this fairly remarkable fact, especially amid all the talk of unity or whatever
The pre-Trump GOP has been memory-holed

Never heard of Homes dot com until this years Super Bowl (it ran a couple spots). And hadn’t seen any commercials since. Until just now during the All Star game. Interesting media buying strategy.

Do you think that it’s bc Republicans have gotten what they’ve wanted: overturn Roe; overturn Chevron; a 6-3 court for a while, so it’s hard to get excited for a platform that is really bad and a party leader who is a convicted felon?

MLB actually got the All Star game uniforms right! Always appreciate the league unis instead of individual team unis.

Mind numbing to think it’s been a dozen years since Clint Eastwood got on stage at the Republican National Convention and had a breakdown, talking to … a chair. How far we’ve come as a nation.

It’s a terrible race! With the result of publishers conflating traffic for audience. One of the legs of that race is when publishers force editors to keep their eyes glued to Google trends — if we had a dollar for every time mgmt said “this is popping on GT” we’d have our own island somewhere!

I did appreciate the dek in the April story that said Musk’s promises rarely come to fruition.

I think the race for scale, proven to be not great, has forced editors to make decisions not in the best interest of their audience. (I did appreciate the dek in the April story) IMO, Your best coverage is when you go narrow and deep. And I can see Musk-burp stories as breadcrumb pieces.

has all the trappings of a perfect national political media story: diner! local tension! horserace (do you think he can win) vs stakes!

Musk just posted on Twitter he's moving one of his companies from California to Texas. A donut says a) every single media company will run it as news; b) it never happens Pretty easy exacta if you ask me.
Here's a game: publish everything Musk says because it's SEO juice, even acknowledging that Musk's "promises have often failed to come true"; then when that promise inevitably doesn't come true publish another story - more clicks, more ad impressions, more signups. (No need to cover every burp)

wonder if they'll mention the million americans who died on his watch between march 2020 and january 2021.

It takes 17 grafs to show how the first 16 (let alone frame) is all political journalistic onanism. Why is it on Biden to "cool the temperature" when 17 grafs says, well, Trump "has encouraged violence"? www.nytimes.com/2024/07/15/u...

Mostly agree except on reflection I feel like the three-day combo of the shooting, the Cannon decision, and the Vance pick was a powerful reminder of how miserable and exhausting it was to live with one goddamn thing after another when this guy had the spotlight for four straight years
I think Trump getting shot and being photographed with a defiant fist in the air, bloodied and unbowed, will actually lead to zero changed votes. He might be the only person in the universe that would be true of.
