Today is the 80th anniversary of this New Yorker cover by Rea Irvin, portraying the D-Day invasion in the style of the Bayeux Tapestry. Bayeux was the first town to be liberated (although the tapestry was, to the surprise of many, not there anymore; that story is the subject of my next novel.) 1/5

Realizing as I sit at my desk that due to the muggy weather, the lack of lockers at the office, my bike commute, and my inability to buy enough reasonable summer clothes, I am now at work in FULL 90s grunge. You want me to report to the office? You get what you get.

Whee, I got to teach all the new white belts breakfalls for a bit today and I don't think I sucked at it! (Then I got spelled by another senior student and went over to train with the rest of the higher belts and got to practice what I preached, as I was slammed into the mats)

It's important to note that in France, yes, a fascist majority was prevented, but they still doubled their presence in parliament. The fascists didn't stay home. They went & voted. It's just that enough decent people showed up to beat them back to a significant degree (& make them cry). SHOW UP.

Passed another biker on the new bridge at Carleton, asking a ped if the bridge connected to the locks. So I said "yep!" and explained the long, hilly, more legit route AND the shortcut that means you ride on the sidewalk. Then showed her the shortcut. I love getting to make an Area Knowledge roll 😁🚴‍♀️
