For no reason at all I just started thinking about when the Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at W, and the press was all “you know, in that culture, that’s a huge insult.” Because if an American journalist threw shoes at the president it would be manna from heaven or something.

Just once I’d like to read an analysis that points out that this has been a Republican long game since Ronald Reagan aligned with the moral majority 40 years ago. People who think Biden can step aside smoothly need to read up on game theoretic coordination problems, divisive primaries, and the 1968 elections just as a starter pack.

95% of the “Biden must step aside” argument rests on wishcasting a perfect storm: Biden steps down gracefully, there’s minimal fallout for Dems, Kamala steps aside, a talented young gun steps in and performs well. It’s not impossible but to act like it’s a layup is nuts.

Was disappointed in Biden’s performance at the debate but also know that a debate is largely a pointless exercise in appearances and doesn’t really say much about a candidate’s fitness. For example: Trump lied the whole debate and no moderator called him on any of it.
