In Alan Moore's essays on writing comics, he drops a line in the conclusion: "It's more important to be a good human being than a good writer." Try to remember that.

There's a line that stuck in my mind from earlier on - "If you want to learn to write dialogue that sounds like real people said it, your best plan is to go and meet some."

There was a local screenwriting prof who made this point by assigning students to jot down overhead dialog (pre-covid) in a notebook. And then pull the most interesting lines.
