Doug Ford cut Ontario's flood management programs funding in half in his first provincial budget. Since then, he's accrued one of the most environmentally destructive records of any recent Ontario premier. Toronto gets more than a month’s worth of rain in a few hours amid rainfall warning

Plastic recycling is a scam. Voting is not a scam. Voting is your last line of defense. You know how they say "don't obey in advance"? Sitting out the vote is telling authoritarians you're cool with it.

A lot of the storm drains on my street are always blocked and covered in detritus and plant matter because the city doesn't clear them (anymore?) and residents don't know they have to or don't care, but they're about to find out what those things do.

I don't think I have ever dissociated in my life. I'm not even sure what that really means. But boy, I'd really like to have this skill today, instead of by turns wanting to cry and feeling terrified of the immediate future. I don't have the constitution for large scale misery.

As a Black woman, I have been told my entire life that if I don’t want to experience violence (state sanctioned, or otherwise) I should comport myself differently. Weird that the red hats aren’t getting that same instruction.

Not for nothing, I was kind of getting at it here. Lefties encouraging other lefties to arm up. Nothing good comes of it. (If indeed it turns out this was someone trying to kill Baby Hitler.)
So I'm not posting this to heckle or shame anyone but I've seen it a couple times, that lefties need to arm up and it gives me the most hopeless feeling. Because this, I think, is the NRA end game. Lefties, the peaceful protestors, are the great untapped market for gun manufacturers.

This whole shooting thing, for whatever reason it happened ... People telling me I'm a doomer, that things aren't that bad, that I shouldn't think in conspiracies or worst case scenarios. I dunno. This is all very, very bad. I think everything is about to get so much worse.

Explainer: There's exactly one standard in America. If Dems call out Trump for his fascism, it's incitement. If Republicans demand violence, it's free speech.

Political violence breaks a lot of social norms. We're not taught in high school civics to shoot people whom we disagree with. Nevertheless, violence can be a tempting political strategy. And as we saw on January 6, there's been a deliberate effort on the Right to instigate it. /2

Make no mistake. It's going to take all of a microsecond for this to be incorporated into stories of a violent leftist mob that has to be violently suppressed. And unlike the Left, the Right has been building a political, media, and legal infrastructure to support vigilantes. /6

The way I see it is this--if people want to boycott the NYT, then I am all for it. If people want to harass a black person for taking money from the NYT for op-eds where they haven't once altered their views for money or power, I'm going to look at them funny.

Twitter has been taken over by the fash, Facebook is using right wing media to "fact check" right wing talking points, and Bsky thinks Biden is unfit to lead. This is gonna be fine. No problem.
Now that people are starting to be aware of the right wing horrors in Project 2025, Facebook, Instagram and Threads have started tagging posts about it as β€œpartly false information,” citing right wing propaganda site The Dispatch as a β€œfact checker.”

I've been wondering and am almost certain this has been happening in Toronto. Many stumps you see have ZERO indication of rot or infestation (says this non-arborist) and there have been a LOT of big old shade trees coming down in the past couple years. Has Toronto contracted out tree care?
Also need to punish the fly by night jerkoff tree companies who show up and tell you, β€œYeah these trees have diseases we gotta cut β€˜em down,” even if they’re perfectly healthy.
