Yeah, and that one story about European leaders and stuff that everyone's citing as evidence of a decline is one of the most deceptively-written pieces I've seen in a "respectable" publication in ages. The part where they regurgitate the misleading skydiver video? Or randomly floating Parkinson's?

Yep. It’s all being led by the NYT, and Sulzberger specifically. And HE doesn’t get to decide who gets to be President. The story about Biden talking about dropping out…isn’t that, and it’s single-source, and being denied vehemently by the WH — who were given 7 minutes to respond before publication.

One thing that is certainly striking to me is that the rest of the mainstream appears to be relying almost entirely on the NYT to guide the conversation. CNN is leading with a story about an NYT story. NPR "commentary" here is just a recounting of NYT stories.

It’s Sulzberger trying to tip the election for Trump, because he doesn’t think Trump can beat Biden. And he wants Trump to win. It’s why Republicans are leaking they’re more scared of other Democrats running.

I would like some hope, please. Anyone have a good scenario where Trump doesn't win in November (that doesn't hinge on Trump croaking)?

Also posting actually can be praxis. Many disabled folks are posting because they can’t get out in the world, because it’s not safe or accessible for them. So much of my politics and my understanding of the world that I have brought into my real life work has been shaped by what I’ve learned online

I don't disagree that posting-as-praxis is an issue, but I will say that it's frustrating that it's consistently assumed here that all leftists are doing nothing but, especially given other action being purposefully not discussed for legal reasons. I can say many I know are very active offline.

Already feels bad, like the Trump years did, when there was no way to escape knowing horrible new things multiple times a day

Unfortunately, as is now being borne out daily, Democratic Party officials and journalism outlets did not spend so much as a single moment actually listening to the warnings of disinformation experts and researchers of the far right

This is one of those days where I've really got to take the kids out for fresh air but am going to feel gaslit by society the whole time, because people won't be running around screaming like their hair is on fire

Say what you will about vulture capital destroying independent media and memoryholing all our past work to save a buck on web hosting, but at least it'll slow the military tribunal evidence collection by a day or two

Back then, though, the issue was the terrifying sense that those with the power to Do Something Meaningful at an official level had no fucking clue about the danger level, let alone a plan to address it. But we could at least scream about it and hope they'd listen. But now...

Something I really wish people in leftist spaces would remember is that military service is one of the few viable paths of upward mobility in the US, especially if you’re in a situation where paying for college is impossible. I’m not saying that’s a good thing, but it is absolutely a reality.

Lot of people on here seem to assume that the US military is basically as bad as US police when it comes to “being totally dominated by frothing MAGA freaks.” This is absolutely NOT the case.
