I've reached out to the offices of all 22 Democrats who voted to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib because of her comments on Israel/Palestine to see if they planned to do the same for her Republican colleague from Michigan.
Michigan U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg said the solution in Gaza “should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima” and said the U.S. “shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid”
1. First (and only reply) so far is from NY Rep. Ritchie Torres. In an official quote, Torres calls Walberg's comments, “Deranged and depraved.”
I asked if, for him, they rise to the same level as Rep. Tlaib's comments. Spokesperson said "Yes."
I asked if he plans to censure. Waiting for response.
They're all waiting to hear back from AIPAC what they're allowed to tell you while playing with "Democracy is on the line!" as they alienate their voters for their unpopular candidate in yet another generation-defining election
Landman's office responded re: censure of Walberg
"His votes would be the same: he’d vote to table but if it were in front of him, he’d vote yes. 'None of this helps us end the war and get the hostages home.'"
Keep at it! Holding out elected officials accountable for their decisions is important. Hold that mirror up and let them see their hypocrisy. I stand with you, Marisa
I don’t know how you can’t give your Democratic colleague talking about her homeland the benefit of the doubt over a fucking Republican; one is very VERY clearly worse
I’d guess part of the delay is that the nature of the question changed. Would they vote for a censure if a resolution came to the floor? Torres says yes.
The follow up is “Will you move a resolution?” And that’s a question that requires consultation with the leadership, not an individual position.
It's very telling that for Schneider and Walberg, the only thing wrong here is the use of nuclear weapons.
For anyone who's not a psychopath, which weapon to use to “Get it over quick” doesn't really matters. The result and the intent do.
We're governed by psychopath.
There won't BE a censure vote, will there? Johnson would have to let it happen and he's not going to allow a Republican be censured for anything less than pointing out their presidential candidate was liable for sexual assault.
Anyone can call for it, leadership can kill it yes but the fact that nobody's even calling for it after punishing a literal Palestinian American woman for saying objective facts about Israel's genocide is unconscionable
This is one of the problems with Democrats: they're unwilling to call for a vote they will lose and therefore never make anyone out their stance on the record.
