fwiw it is not true anywhere that "registration is always available" and in many places voter registration is relatively inaccessible, requiring traveling significant distances and showing up during business hours, which might be the same hours a person is supposed to be at their own job.
certainly agree eclipses are less widely accessible. States and parts of states vary greatly in how easy it is to register to vote in them. Some places have policies specifically designed to make it difficult to register. But if the point is to compare to eclipses, sure.
