This is 2016 redux. It's reprehensible what nyt is doing. You know who does this kind of shit? Propagandists masquerading as legit media organizations in places like Hungary and russia
Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 felonies counts. President Biden’s debate debacle. Democrats and Republicans had radically different responses to recent news about their presidential candidates, illustrating something important about the two major parties.

By the way, has anyone looked to see if the "I don't vote" garbage is still on the NYT website? I canceled my subscription so I can't check.

Here is the website to check your own records. voteref.com
Well, I just checked that site, and it certainly has the fact that I voted in New York in every general election since 2004. (Interestingly, they don't have California's records, so there's a break in my voting record when I was living out there for a year.)

Yes I ended my talk with a poetry reading. I send this poem to my parents every 4th of July. Here it is in full if you've never read it: poets.org/poem/let-ame...
In my early career award lecture at AERA last weekend, I ended my talk with a reading of an excerpt from Let America Be America Again

I'm going to toss this into the ether. The Heritage Foundation president was emboldened it make his overt threat of bloodshed in part because between the Democratic schism over the debate and the SCOTUS decision on Monday he believes there's no stopping them now.

Nobody loves that Joe Biden is 81. It would be great if he was 35. But you know what I really dislike? Authoritarianism. So I humbly beseech people to get a goddamn grip.

I will admit I have not read the opinion yet, but to those who have: Does the court provide *any* meaningful guidance on how a district court could/should go about determining whether something is an official act? Does it require evidence or is it a matter of law? TIA for any insights.

I wonder if today is what the day Plessy v. Ferguson would have looked like if social media existed then.

THE sentence of the day: A Macronist incumbent in the Marseille region came in 3rd in her seat. She just dropped out to support the left. She said, about why she's maneuvering to block the far-right: "Defeats happen, but you can never recover from dishonor."

I no longer care about any "reason" anyone offers up for failing to use their right to stop Trump. Gaza, student loans, Biden's age, not being reached out to, etc. If you stay home, if you vote third party, if you flood your social media with b.s. you are complicit in the end of American democracy.

Can we stop talking about the debate now and just get the fucking job done between now and November?

Our task remains exactly as it was at 9:59 AM. We have to stop Trump at the ballot box. There is no other choice.
