Jason Wells, the CEO of Centerpoint Energy, sits in front of a thermostat reading 70° while feigning empathy for 870k customers that are STILL without power after Beryl. The heat index will reach 106° in some areas in Houston today. This is genuinely criminal.

Anecdotal reports are coming out of Houston that Centerpoint is negotiating compensation with their out of state linemen, and that’s why disaster recovery (power specifically) after Beryl is currently so slow. What past late, the bar is in hell, stage capitalism is this exactly??

@samlmontano.bsky.social please write something about the Whataburger Map happenings in the wake of Beryl (folks using Whataburger stores open/close status to determine ongoing power outages). It’s such a stark example of crowd sourced info gathering in the face of systems failure.

WTF. The electric company in Texas doesn't have a map of outages so people have been using the Whataburger App to figure out who lost power. This is like when Homer was using the Krusty Burger map when they got lost at sea.

Do Canadians have any holidays that are particularly firework heavy? Asking for a future hopeful expat.
