It’s also important to be able to communicate it. It took me 30 years to figure out how to describe the haircut I wanted, and I have a sister that cuts hair for a living. It’s a lot easier to just point at a picture and say “I want that.”

i found that part so hard i just learned to cut my own hair instead, that turned out to be the lesser challenge.

It is frustrating when you feel you explained the haircut you want very thoroughly, only for it to be three inches shorter than you wanted on the top

It also helps to have a good relationship with your barber so they’ll tell you it’s a bad idea before cutting your hair.

I just go in, ask for "the usual" and allow the barber to decide what that means. They usually make me look good, and I'm always pleasantly surprised.
