what's everyone's favorite non-city Sim game. i always loved sim copter, being able to fly around a city you made was so neat. i had simearth as a kid but could barely understand it and am also i feel like one of three people to ever play simisle (not good)
when you got a computer in the 90s you would just acquire a lot of random cd roms because computers always came in these insane bundles so you'd get like three lesser known Sim games, Hello Kitty-themed productivity software, a demo for an FMV game with Bob Hoskins, etc
As a kid in the 90s whose parents refused to buy consoles I played everyone one of these games: Jazz Jackrabbit, One Must Fall 2099, Rise of the Triad, Wacky Wheels, Commander Keen, Jill of the Jungle, Hugo’s House of Horrors
My parents' Pentium 66 came with a multimedia CD that gave step by step animated instruction on how to fold different types of paper airplanes, with spoken audio. I drove back from college to witness this wonder.
I bought a boxed set of Doom, Doom 2, and a tonne of homebrew levels, except the Doom CD turned out to inexplicably be an Englebert Humperdinck album instead.
I loved magazines as a kid and the ones from the UK were a kind of holy grail because of how high quality and rare they were, if you found an imported one it was usually over $12 in 1990s money
i think our second gateway computer came with some 3d pinball game, a claymation point and click adventure game of some kind, and cd that had a bunch of dilbert themed minigames
I was a huge fan of SimAnt
conducting a war for the lawn was the closest I could get to conquest as a child whose parents did not like violent video games
Loved SimAnt. Its manual (first half game manual, back half ant facts) is my all time second favourite (pipped only by Arcanum.)
Better dead than red!/Better red than dead!
