i know it's like a hellhole or whatever, but honestly it looks real convenient for a person who wants to be a shut-in (me)

From what I understand it wasn't even that horrible of a place to live. Lot of poverty and the Platonic ideal a fire code violation, but the people living there were basically good neighbors.

Honestly, like most Brazilian favelas, it appeared to be clean and well run. Source: There's a good coffee table book about KWC with lots of interior photos and interviews, made in view of the coming demolition.

There was that German documentary about it with real footage from before it was demolished in 1994. Place didn't seem all bad, but there were some hallways and nooks that looked, uh, sketchy.
