more people on the left should see the military as a big giant multicultural jobs program for working-class Americans. doesn't make everybody involved a liberal but it doesn't hurt!

then there's the officer corps, aka college graduates raised on the idea of American exceptionalism, who often don't like the way Trump makes the nation smell. again, not a universal rule - but a real thing.

I've gone to the Army-Navy game every year since 2018. When Trump was in office, to hear the retired officers boo him was glorious and a great reminder that these patriotic Americans knew who he was.

this reminds me that my friend who went to West Point 88-92 said that everyone else was very Republican but they *hated* Dan Quayle

(Quayle in retrospect is an example of bad management IMO - Bush II projected nice doofus, Trump projects mean doofus who doesn't care what you think, but Quayle projected mean doofus who _does_ care what you think.)
