If what I've read of the VHS standard on Wikipedia is accurate, then the chroma information should be something like 1/16th the horizontal resolution-- if the luma is 320x480 or thereabouts, the chroma is 40x480, stretched out. I've tried that out in GIMP and it seems right???

A really good point: wrong (non-malicious) human advice tends to be a sin of omission, unintentionally leaving out something important. Wrong LLM advice tends to be a sin of commission, making stuff up.
