Please don’t “both sides” the “violent political rhetoric” conversation when one side regularly glorifies and intimidates with guns and the other side speaks out to end gun violence. These are not the same.

Yesterday I was looking at a cool steam train while Trump was getting his ear pierced. I didn't hear about it til later. All kinds of people were there to see the train, from old timers to fresh immigrants. Everyone was friendly, united in joy at seeing it. It was nice to feel that again, briefly.

At work I have to deal with a lot of academics as well as people from big biotech companies. The folks in academia are often completely unavailable during the summer, either vacationing or doing some other travel, or they just don't go into campus during that time. Must be nice.

An important thing about not-voting is that no one can know who you didn’t vote for. Did you not vote for trump? Or did you not vote for Biden? Or did you not vote for RFK Jr.? “Not voting” not only does not send a message, it *cannot* send a message; it is a non-act that conveys no information.

Today's SCOTUS ruling regarding presidential immunity wasn't as bad as it could have been. So, that's *slightly* heartening. They've done so much damage to the country in the past week, however, that it's really hard to have any level of optimism for the future.
