Tesla's head of design was showing off this matte black Cybertruck at the Malibu Cars And Coffee over the weekend, which suggest he's... proud of it? @dsgolson.bsky.social has all the pics and snark here: insideevs.com/news/694929/...

Whole chunks of this thing are gonna fall off on the highway aren't they?

New England winter is going to disassemble this thing like a bored toddler.

My '99 Jetta, ostensibly a decent and reliable car, turned into a projectile the second snow hit the ground. Imagine this fuckin' thing.
Avatar
I was about to come to the defense of my beloved Jetta except ice made it a past tense car. So.

It was a good car, it smelled like crayons no matter what I did to it, and it is a miracle I did not die on the highway.
Avatar
it's a german car thing, the crayons
Avatar
The good news is it was designed to make sure I survived the conditions the car couldn't?

this is more a tire thing than a car thing, honestly. Good winter compound tires are black magic fuckery. there's a reason they're required after a certain date in Quebec, lol
Avatar
I never ran snow tires on my car until I moved to Ottawa (never used them in Halifax or southern Ontario) and I am now a firm believer in them! They’re on the car now.

Snow tires made my too-powerful real wheel drive sedan into a very competent snow traveler. I lived north of Boston at the top of a very, very steep hill. Without snow tires, I couldn’t even go down the hill without crashing
Avatar
With any luck, this thing will simply refuse to move.

My friend’s 03 Jetta absolutely melted in Phoenix. Some sort of rubber dripped out the bottom of the doorframes.
Avatar
And imagine all the maple seedlings and pine needles those cracks can hold before winter even shows up! That thing’ll be full of mulch before the snow even gets here.
Avatar
See it was made to take on the detritus of nature, thereby changing over time into an organic work of art, much like your sunken ship becoming a reef of coral

“CyberTruck? More like ChiaTruck!”

Hope you like squinting through foliage, Bobby. It’s the price you pay for a futuristic eco car.

Blade Runner, a bad ass, doesn’t care

With some of those tack welds, I'd say "highly likely"

And it will be a MASTERFUL GAMBIT when they do! -weird nerds, everywhere

the bumpers on the 3 or S or whatever come off when it rains or snows a bit because it accidentally got designed as a shovel so it holds water/snow
Avatar
Including chunks of pedestrians you hit because you can't see out of the damn thing.

Revealing underneath is a 1999 Toyota Corolla

Hey my 90s Corolla was awesome

And it's probably still running

If you’re not embarrassed by the first edition of your product you shipped too late, right? ….RIGHT?

Could happen. I remember M3 bumpers falling off, among other ongoing problems as I noted: "So, perhaps don't drive a new M3 in the snow, wind, or rain. Check. Or in cold weather. Got it. (And maybe don't feed it after midnight, just to be safe.)" Read my full take (free) below: cc: @niedermeyer.io

that might even be an improvement.

Yes, but it can survive a bow and arrow attack, so...

I can't believe it made it to this cars and coffee let alone highway speeds.
Avatar
It looks like "some assembly required" Although too be fair it is consistent with tesla quality.

A couple years ago at happy hour, a friend's coworker told me the most amazing & horrifying story of how his Tesla's steering wheel fell off while he was driving down the highway. They are maybe the shittiest vehicles being made anywhere on the planet.
Avatar
If you live close enough to make it to the highway.

the microns Tesla uses for measurements seem bigger than the microns Lego uses 🤔
