Buy now, before the Rs defund the IRS program

Look, it’s the stock market’s rendition of the Oklahoma-Texas border!

Avatar
yeah but who's gonna rip off veterans trying to file their taxes now
Avatar
I’m sure the Rs will fix that lickety split as soon as they get a chance.

serves me right for taking investment advice from dojacat

gee i guess they're going to need to make QuickBooks useable now

Let's see how much better corporations are than the government at providing services. Moment of truth in the marketplace of ideas

Love it. Intuit is such a terrible company.

OMG, please make filing taxes in America like filing them anywhere else bc anywhere else I hardly have to do anything at all. The freedom to do taxes myself is the worst freedom.
Avatar
the problem for democrats is that the unscrupulous people are keenly aware of Biden's policies, much more so than the rabble
Avatar
It's kind of wild this has been the norm for this long. A simple w-2 and maybe a couple of 1099s is all the vast majority of Americans fill out and that isn't that hard.
Avatar
The Biden administration’s fight against corporate scammers would be an effective campaign talking point if anyone knew about it.
Avatar
Good. It's the largest predatory industry out there, way past time it fucking died.
Avatar
That’s good, but I’m curious what level of service will it bring? Can I link bank accounts and such for records? I even take a photo of my W2 and just check for correctness. I dislike having to pay for a service and think this should be the way but hopefully it won’t roll out like FAFSA

I've used FreeTaxUsa for the last 3 years and it's as good if not better than TurboTax. Totally free federal, $14.99 for state. Hoping the IRS site will be comparable but if not, I'll gladly keep using that one. They can import previous PDF returns, so real easy to switch.
Avatar
Avatar
Its identical to turbo tax. you just input what's on your w2 it calculates your deductions. IDK how it works with out the standard deduction though.
Avatar
I don't have a W2, it's a bit more complicated, and I did itemized 2 years ago and it's as easy as can be. My return would cost around $500 if I dropped it off at tax service.
Avatar
Avatar
This is what was allowed this year. IDK if it will be expanded.
Avatar
Thank you! What about deductions? Like mortgage and property tax? Child credits?
Avatar
Thanks. Yeah, that won't do for me. Frankly astonished it doesn't do 1099s, wth?
Avatar
I did it this year. You just filled out what was on your W2
Avatar
I’m getting lambasted elsewhere on this website for asking questions such as these.
Avatar
You were lambasted for implying that it would be crap because it was free when the rest of the world has figured this out.
Avatar
Like I’m all aboard ditching turbo tax. The federally run site should have info preloaded, like W2’s I think? I’m just curious myself. I’ll use it, I just hope it’s easy. Turbo tax is ridiculous and they’re constantly trying to upsell people so, not having to navigate that will be a plus.

This is in article for what some Dems want it to do, to go further, since yeah the IRS has all the info anyway.
Avatar
The article is fairly ambiguous. It mentions that the IRS has the info, but not what functionality will be there. Like interview one of the 100k people lol?

Next we need the IRS to send us a postcard summarizing our taxes for us, like every other peer country does. 😅
The IRS wants to be able to have a system like that, but it's been stifled for years by the tax-prep industry. It's amazing that they were finally able to get this far and I commend them and the Biden admin.for making this happen. Onward!
Avatar
This is good but I'd like the option to kick them also
Avatar
Here's hoping that I actually qualify for it, I didn't for the Pilot program.
Avatar
If Biden kills an entire industry, is that considered genocide???
Avatar
There's no reason the IRS couldn't just build a spreadsheet and let you use that (and LibreOffice is free), at least for 99% of taxpayers, and the rest almost all need accountants anyway.
Avatar
They could have done this whenever Also, the IRS login uses facial recognition
