The word “Southern” on the First Baptist listing being crudely painted over instead of replaced is a nice touch. “Do you want a new sign.” “No. I want people to know they are Not Like Us.”

Which Trona is this sign from? There are two, adjacent to each other on either side of the Inyo-San Bernardino county line, and the San Bernardino County one has a population closer to 2,000. (and let's not forget the people who live outside the city limits)

Having suffered through a few years in a small town, my first thought was ranchers, farmers, and assorted *really* rural people coming to town for church. 37 is a little small for much shopping, or realistically even a diner. But yeah, could be the other city too.

Why would two adjacent towns share the same name? Sounds needlessly confusing.

My dad grew up in Trona, it was a bit more hopping in those days.

Notice the sign accommodates three more churches at the bottom, as if at one time there may have been twelve!

At least they let you know this is a place you don't want to make any stops in.
