[takes a drag off a candy cigarette]
I don't like to go negative, but...
-American Beauty. I will go to my grave spitting nails at this movie.
-Quarantine. Possibly my most hated movie. Unpleasant nothing.
-Summer's Blood. Ugly & hateful & GTFO.
-Mystic River. MORE SEAN PENN OVERACTING, PLEASE.
I got so mad at American beauty when it came out. my roommate was a "film guy" and made me watch it. I hated it. No stakes, no soul, just hollow and pretentious over NOTHING
PRECISELY THAT
I rented it after all the awards circle buzz, and after I watched it, I thought I was the victim of an overly elaborate practical joke.
Like... y'all were losing your minds over this navel-gazing slop?!
Even if you're grading it on a curve, holy shit, it sucks so bad.
It's not even "so bad that it loops back around to being good" bad. It's "so bad that it becomes even worse by the time you finished this sentence" bad.
I've never seen it but most of the people I know who like it... I am not super into their fiction tastes would be the nicest way I could put it (and is part of the reason I have never seen it)
It's uber-creepy and pretentious and uninvolving and there's nobody at all who's likeable/relatable and it's not at all funny when it tries to be and it's nowhere near as smart as it aspires to be and... [hyperventilates into a paper bag]
Couldn’t agree with you more about AB. So many things to hate-one that gets under my skin is how Spacey wants an “easy” job so he works at McDonalds, which is certainly a shit job, but it ain’t fucking easy by any stretch. One of it’s many clueless, insultingly privileged “observations”.
This is an extremely accurate description. It says nothing interesting and gives itself a hernia straining to pat itself on the back for being profound.
I still say it was never nearly as good as everyone seemed to think it was then and it's not as bad as a lot of people seem to think it is now. It's kind of a mediocre movie with a couple neat ideas and a couple huge problems. I have no idea how it gets such a strong reaction in either direction.
Nothing (and I'm including "SPRING BREAK AT SEX TIMES HIGH" 80s jiggle-fests) has aged as badly as the Fukuyama End-Of-History late-90s ennui flicks/shows. AMERICAN BEAUTY's tale of a dad with a home, job, wife and kids but being a little sad sometimes rings way too hollow in our current nightmare
There are so, so many reasons why it's loathsome. Just... ugh.
It was bad from the get-go and only became more radioactive over the years. Freaking *yikes.*
Okay, now, [REC], I loved.
I visited that after some hesitancy, since I watched Quarantine before I even knew there was a [REC].
BUT I LOVED THE HELL OUT OF [REC].
And aye, Quarantine has no reason to exist. Exactly that. Well said.
The only movie I ever walked out of- big mammas house
The only movie I ever *ran* out of - very bad things
The movie that was a complete waste of my time- La La land
The worst movie I’ve ever seen- aloha
