I definitely have a weird deal where I mimic accents of whoever I spend time around, it's totally unconscious. But my base accent is rural BC (sort of like California x Minnesota) plus NC vocab as well. It's a mess.
Im in a similar boat having loved so many places. I did the quiz/map exercise but didn’t screenshot it because mine was ridiculous. My triangulation places were Mobile, Montgomery, and Columbus, GA.
I mean you’ve heard me speak, like wtf?
I do the same. Really helps when you’re in another country and speaking their language. I was mistaken for Greek by Greeks in Greece. But it’s weird when it’s an English accent of any sort. I can’t help falling into it.
Yes! My Spanish is uh, not fantastic, but I *always* get comments on my accent specifically. The grammar is mids on a good day and the vocab atrocious but you better believe I get the tempo and rhythm right.
Mimicry is distinct from vocab mastery. I too am a gifted mimic with middlin’ vocab in 5 languages. Also got my ass kicked on the basketball courts in public housing as a kid because of doing mimicry of cadence and accent without thinking :)
Oh man no kidding. I really worry about that and am conscious to avoid situations where something might get misconstrued. Much safer in Spanish than English.
