I always thought it was because of the big slugs?? No??? The reason the Pacific Northwest is so fascinating and eerie to Americans is because it functions as a gateway to an uncanny realm of magic and terror (Canada) 8 1 71
They are VERY big, you guys 11 40
All the breakfasts of my childhood spent with banana slugs mating on the glass doors adjacent to the table... 1 6

Red in tooth and claw and PANTLESS 4
To be fair, there are also banana slugs in Vancouver. The ones in the States serve as guides to the Otherrealm. 3

To everyone's horror, they were the size of a banananana ALREADY
I concluded that I did not need to do siense on them

UCSC students LOVE revolt.
See now this is making me vividly recall the time I accidentally stepped on a banana slug while running. With bare feet. (or maybe sandals, but I still ended up touching that slug with bare flesh) *shudders* 1
Your reputation that makes me afraid to tell you.
Can you eat them? Without dying? 2
Dunno, I'm from the prairies
We have regular slugs
(I do get the impression you're not really supposed to eat the regular ones though) 1 1
At camp we were dared to kiss them. They make your lips go numb, but I think that's it? Nobody died! 1 1

You can eat sea slugs. Not the best, though, in my opinion. But I like escargot, so.... 1
