lots of people in my mentions either saying sarcastically "but the poor pundits" or arguing that it's the media money preventing this and like yes I get that but PUNDITS AND MEDIA CAN ALSO TALK ENDLESSLY ABOUT THE GOVERNING
Long election campaigns also put the emphasis, over and over again, ON THE ELECTION rather than on governing: like voting is all we as citizens have to do; like winning is the most important quality in a candidate. GOVERNING. The thing is GOVERNING. Elections should be a means of accountability+

BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

The power of Nope keeps these assholes out of city councils, library boards, and school boards. The power of Nope stacks Attorneys General. The power of Nope shifts judges, sherriffs, congress reps, senators. and the power of Nope can be used to keep them on target between elections.
And arguably what I am enjoying most is that this is not the hero theory of history. We’re not seeing a charismatic leader carry the election through rhetoric and force of personality. We’re seeing populations say: nope. I like the power of nope.

Yes. This.
if there is one thing I want to come out of this election, regardless of result, it is Dems - and the left more generally - finally understanding that they need to make their own media ecosystem and stop relying on folks who want them to lose to get their message out

Also: Get off your arse and vote. My constituency was won for Labour by 15 votes. A high turnout from the French sorted this. You don't vote? Well, the fash do. If you're replying to this with why it's ideologically impure for a truly left wing person to vote, please just block yourself, I'm tired.

I very much like the power of nope. I like calm, sensible politics that rejects the charismatic hero-leader in favour someone who's perhaps a bit dull but who can get the job done.

Because success is not just about how many people, it's about the collective buzz becoming bigger than the people, and 5000 people on one site can create the kind of momentum that 1000 people each on 5 different sites could never touch.

Randomly thinking of the time my parents came back from dinner at a family friends whom my family has known for like 5 generations and dad moaning about the food and my granddad being like " this is a ridiculous complaint, the food has been bad in that house since the 1800s why are you crying now"

What I worry about IF Biden were to step aside: Republican governors, like mine in OK, would bring up some BS of “it’s too close to the election, no other candidates can appear on the ballot” to try and fuck the election. Even though we DO have contingencies in place because, well, ie people do DIE.
After his halting performance at a debate against Donald Trump, President Biden’s senior aides face worries among fellow Democrats and sharp accusations from Republicans that they took steps to conceal the effect the president’s aging has had on his ability to carry out his duties.
Debate brings scrutiny of whether aides shielded signs of Biden’s agingwww.washingtonpost.com Biden, aides now grappling with accusations they strongly reject that they were not candid with the public about how his age impacted his ability to do the job.

We’ve returned to the olden days, when word-of-mouth was the only real way to advertise. As an author, if you enjoy a book, please: tell your friends. Your group chat, your sewing circle, your family WhatsApp, your work Slack, the voice channel of your MMORPG guild, anything.
Hey, so. I understand that this is anecdotal and not research, but. It is WILD how useless social media has become for promo. It's a fucking disgrace, really.

This is a of a piece with climate change and the last two decades of political coverage. The need to describe both sides results in reporting that places them on level footing and too often, actually elevates the side most divorced from reality.
Avatar
That's the problem with the modern mainstream media. They misrepresent things (Biden, Trump) we can objectively see ourselves for clicks and vibes and to conform with their preconceived notions...and then they say Democracy dies in darkness and trust us. How can we sift good reporting from bad now?

Since emancipation. Ain't nothing new under the sun. So if this knowledge of the lengths supremacists will go to to make their ideal world is new to you, I'm sorry. But you have to get over it and be prepared to join the fight that the rest of us have been in for decades.

These good ol' boys who run our state were bad before and Trump's only made them bolder to act in their barely veiled racism. The conservatives of this state would rather slit their throats than let black and brown people or "illegals" appear to be getting ahead of them and it's been that way

When Nikki Haley ran for governor, a member of their own party, they called her a raghead. The congressman who yelled "You lie!" at Obama's state of the union was from SC. His name is Joe Wilson btw and he's running for reelection.

I have CONSISTENTLY voted Democrat since I was registered. My 1st presidential election I watched Gore fucking win only for the presidency to be handed to Bush. In my state I've watched fight tooth and nail to keep any progressive policies from happening.

I going to put this bluntly. I'm from SC. My senators are Graham and Scott. When the call goes out to call your reps, let me tell you, these men DO NOT CARE about my Black ass. I have watched governor after governor blatantly ignore the wants of the constituents. 🧵
Black southerners have been experiencing the violent white supremacist terrorism of Trumpism ever since he took office, all through the time he was trying to overthrow the government, & the entire time since then. It's not new to us, but if it's new to y'all, great. @killianfantasy.bsky.social

Liz Truss going full goose stepping neo nazi in public is an excellent indicator of how the Tories are going to react to this rout
Out of morbid curiosity I checked out the “Lotus Eaters” podcast Liz Truss went on. The clips I saw were full of racism, Nazi sympathies, barely veiled antisemitism. That Truss wasn’t immediately dropped by the Tories for this is a depressing reminder of how far to the right this country has moved

Yup, Biden might be dogshit on international issues and foreign policy and military policy, but nobody has ever been a bigger threat and waged a harder war against the rich wealthy elite in decades like Biden. Biden's attack on corporate monopolies and rising taxes are scaring the billionaire bigots

Though tbf at this point I don't think it's a biden thing, I think the dems know that this is their path. Push them harder down it but that doesn't remotely happen with King Donald running Epstein island 2.0 from the WH
