I think that Donald Trump and his movement should be read as the ultimate expression of Boomer social principles: a fuck you individualist movement masquerading as reformist that is really about removing any concept of responsibility from society. He's the endpoint of their contempt and resentment.
Historians of this era will spend a lot of time studying social resentment, especially in older folks, and how it's played such a central role in politics.
As a 65-year-old who despises Trump, I have a limited amount of patience for younger people who think "Boomer" = "arrogant, self-absorbed Republican" - a lot of us are like that. But many of us aren't. Some polls say we may be the only age group that *doesn't* vote for Trump in November.
Look, I don't mean all Boomers, just like I don't mean all white people. Nobody believes every single white southerner loved Jim Crow, but we know a majority did and when the book is written on your generation history will not be kind. Might not be kind to mine either.
That's not a generational thing, it's a societal rot thing, and it's been around fot a long, long time. It's just ascendant right now. Most of the boomers I know hate Trump and everything he stands for. Honestly, the biggest Trump fans I've met have been my age and younger.
