Me realizing that even though I have multiple languages none of them are in not fascist-y places atm - Cyprus or a minor Greek island is looking better every day
if i were going to try to bail it’d be britain or ireland because i don’t speak any other languages conversationally and i don’t really worry about those two as falling to fascism risks even if they do some terrible things tbh
One thing about Greece/Cyprus is everyone's English is pretty good, Greek is actually pretty straight forward and the food is quite a bit better than my ancestral homeland (no offense guys it's just true)
well, the important thing is to be personally insulated from a country's problematic politics, so being an expat with a white collar job would be perfect really
Italy comes up probably because it is weirdly easy to flee to if you have any Italian ancestry, I have two friends who have successfully acquired passports and shockingly quickly, too
Yeah that’s the only catch IIRC, you have to be able to prove the whole chain of male ancestors with documents. But if you can do it — hopefully you can! — it doesn’t even matter how far back you need to go, which is really weird!
Joking aside, we’ve been wondering about this after years of chortling at people saying they’ll move overseas. But it’s pretty hard to feel optimistic about the near or medium term in the US these days.
