when I was a child, I thought smart people were in charge. when I got older, I realized you didn't have to be smart to be in charge. but the piece that was hardest to learn is that no one is really in charge at all. no one's going to fix it beyond us.

I was giving an actor friend some advice on writing and I spent 15 minutes explain how I’d just fucked up a script, rewrote, stalled, then finally got it. They had this idea that it was hard because they weren’t good. No, *the process is the art* . We need to share that relentlessly.
Something that has helped with this recently is watching videos of other artists working. Mostly manga artists for me but thats cause we use the same tools. Seeing them just put down lines and make mistakes and scribble helps get my brain out of that mode. Its been surprisingly helpful haha

When you see the everyday decency of regular people, it puts the behavior of our "elites" into rather stark relief. (tl;dr 23-year-old juror impaneled on a pandemic nonprofit fraud case is offered $120K in cash and *immediately* turns it in. Wild story, a credit to local reporting. Gift link.)

As a kid I picked up a library book from my fave series back then. Once I was home and started to read a postcard fell out of the book. It was addressed to me. From my best friend. Who took the same book to her family’s vacation, used the postcard as a bookmark, and forgot to send it.

Pickles are how you show true adoration.
Caught a display of vintage Valentine’s Day cards outside the Smith College Rare Book Room and it has me wondering why modern Valentine’s cards are so insipid. Give me a pickle or a lobster with anatomical labels, you cowards.

Having now learned that both libraries & professional wrestling have "jobbers" I'm imagining a professional wrestler called The Librarian who uses an encyclopedic knowledge of wrestling to win matches through finishing moves like The Catalog & the brutal Boolean Stretch
aren't jobbers mostly for libraries?

georgetown is now offering cash incentives for faculty to "further embed AI tools into our educational practices" and it turns out the initiative is funded by a donor who is the head of "disruptive technology" for, wait for it, the world bank
Literally no one is asking for the stuff AI is being pushed for right now (which is everything). It’s the tech company version of fetch, and they’re determined to make it happen.
