Every academic article has a corresponding author whose email address is listed on the first page. If an article is paywalled, just send a short, polite email requesting a PDF from the author. 95% of the time you’ll receive it within a day. People like knowing their work is being read!

Tenshi no Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa no Inori (1994) | RPG | Super Famicom | Telenet Fan translated as "Song of the Angel" in 2018, our hero's friends aid him in an adventure to declare his love. This turn-based RPG also had a few devs from the famous "Wolf Team" such as composer, Motoi Sakuraba!

A three-page ad from 2004 for The Matrix Online, an MMO continuing the story of the films when it launched in 2005. The ad teased "an intelligent mission system" and "intense fighting in wire-fu and bullet time" as players dove deeper into a rabbit hole narrated with live events and missions.

The RPG, Ultima IV, was brought to the NES in Japan by FCI and Pony Canyon, releasing in 1989. One year later, it would come to North America. For the Japanese market, the artwork promotion (and box art) for the game received an anime-inspired glow up quite different from its original PC release!

Masamune Shirow's doujin work before he went pro is well documented, but the actual work he did for doujin like Atlas and Pate isn't well documented. Plus, the books themselves are pretty rare.

A 1989 advertisement in Japan for Mother, an RPG for the Nintendo Famicom Mother was an innovative RPG by creator, Shigesato Itoi. Instead of swords and sorcery with castles and deep dungeons, a slightly askew United States of the late 80s featured youths armed with toy guns and psychic powers!
