Y’all, now that the orchestra has made its announcement, I can start blabbing about Chaski performing a double concerto with CTP in March. So excited; I may not be able to shut up about it!

In case you need an infusion of good cheer, today is Martha’s eighth birthday. My sister made this collage of Martha moments. I’m told the birthday girl is celebrating the occasion by devouring the dried leg of some sort of large fowl (goose, turkey, velociraptor?).

This morning I cycled to Little H-E-B, aka the SoCo temp store (which I 🩵 and will miss). Stopped at Talbot’s “Your Essential Magnificence.” The shrine is a reminder that your essential magnificence is never in question.

I admire the vibe of Brat Girl Summer. But, tbh, my current style aesthetic is more Old Hippy Chick Summer: tie-dyed sundress, semi-permanent magenta feather affixed to my grey hair, platform sandals, flamboyant earrings, protest songs.

Oh by the way, this a great time to read writers with roots in Appalachia who aren't J. D. Vance. I grew in North Carolina, my novel concerns New Orleans, Alabama, & Atlanta, but it's a way better read for y'all than HILLBILLY ELLEGY. Get it from my neighborhood bookstore here. Y'all welcome.

Today in Silly History - it’s 235 years since Clotworthy Skeffington showed that (even though he came from a line of Clotworthy Skeffingtons) his life was more remarkable than his name by being freed from a French prison by a mob the day before the storming of the Bastille
Odd this daymulberryhall.medium.com Today in 1789, the 2nd Earl of Massereene, despite being called Clotworthy Skeffington — and having a father, grandfather and great grandfather each also called Clotworthy Skeffington — proved it…

in all the (appropriate) memorializing of Shelley Duvall as a performer in the work of male auteur directors, spare a thought for her own auteur work: Faerie Tale Theatre was one of the few actually good media products aimed at children in the 1980s, but because it didn't sell toys it's forgotten

Took my trike on a plant shopping adventure. (All errands are adventures when you ride a purple e-trike.) Hadn’t planned to buy lemon grass, but sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need. (Austin folks might know where I am.)

Fueled by breakfast tacos & iced coffee, we Chaski gals had an amazing concert-planning session w/Panoramic Voices’ Juli Orlandini. (We’re at the 41st street Jo’s and I rode my e-trike there!😎)

I’m stepping away from social media for the day. My doomscrolling habit has taken a toll. I think a day of gardening, trike errands, harping, and reading an unserious, page-turner of a novel, will be restorative. Or at least I hope so. Catch up w/all y’all later.

Rode my e-Trike to a meeting this morning. Roughly 5 miles each way. Lovely! (Austin cyclists know the pleasures of Rio Grande through downtown & campus.) I did parts of the return trip as an “acoustic” bike (w/out e-assist). Fun, but I may not be able to move tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning we Chaski gals are having coffee with one of our fav choral conductors to plot & plan for our December concert together.

My lovely husband made French 75’s for our evening cocktail. Can’t imagine why. Anyway, they were refreshing & empowering, and certainly packed a wallop. (He mentioned something about fashy tears as the secret ingredient.)

Lovely to get back to Dim7 rehearsals. I miss having a rhythm section & singing harmony vocals. We are learning Selena’s “Como la flor.” I 🩵🩵🩵 it!

Also confessing that I do not ever view myself as the sharpest tack in the junk drawer, and/but I literally* do not understand what the Times's g.d. problem is. *And when I haul out the "literally," you know I'm serious.
I confess that I was irritatedly self-registering how my having canceled my Times subscription is screwing up my habitual research methods (yes, I know how libraries work, you needn't explain them), but OTOH I don't have to read today's "Why I Don't Vote" guest piece.
