“Okay, so to recap, you want all the women in the kingdom to put their bare feet in a see through heel to see which one you danced with.”
“Correct”
“And you can’t tell by just looking at her face?”
“I wasn’t looking at her face.”
“You were looking at her…”
“…her feet, yes.”
…
“Don’t judge me”
"Ok so we found 2 people that fit into the glass slipper. A dirty, servant girl named Cinderella. And a local plumber named Phil...."
....
"....so you've kinda painted yourself into a corner with this slipper thing"
I think the original folk tale had a fur slipper, but frankly half the kingdom would probably have fit a fur slipper, so I always assumed that they were looking for the pair
Check out "Glass Slipper, Gold Sandal". It blends several traditional tales that are all very similar to what we know today as the Cinderella story. In addition to being a fun read, it was a neat intro for my child to storytelling and how stories change and aren't set in stone.
I like the Disney live action explanation that the slipper was magic and wouldn't fit on anyone else but also it was a show from the Duke and not an earnest attempt to find her.
