Seriously this would be the best I just looked it up, Labour became the opposition in 1924, when the old Liberal Party collapsed
What would make me genuinely excited tomorrow morning is if the LibDems do manage to push the Tories into third place. Amongst so so *so* much else, that would mean a Leader of the Opposition who's not a raging transphobe. Also it would generally be great. (Also if the Greens do brilliantly.)

DON'T FORGET YOUR PHOTO ID
I've already voted, but if you're reading this and you haven't, polling stations are already open. What are you waiting for? Be nice to the polling station staff; they work a long day - take some biscuits. And if you're taking your pup, share a pic with #DogsAtPollingStations Fly, my pretties!

Yep, I will 100% accept this alternative theory as to why ADHD was thought to only affect boys My previous theory: Men outsource their lack of executive function to wives and secretaries; women are just considered bad housekeepers, or their mum/daughter takes over
"we never used to have all these women in their 30s suddenly getting diagnosed with ADHD" listen, I wouldn't have even noticed I have ADHD if I lived in an era where my doctor could ask if I want to lose 5lbs and then hand me enough amphetamines to see the face of God

One of the problems with wfh is that snacks stored with the rest of the food will have been eaten by the time you want them. My husband got twitchy about me hiding food in our room, so I moved my stash The teen just told me that she prefers me hiding them, as she won't take them from my office

PSA for anyone who uses a walking stick and may need to attach it to a rucksack at times, may I recommend looking at single stick hockey bags? Kiddo has a normal looking rucksack with loops for her hockey stick on the side A cane is going to be narrower, so check it holds

Thread! STAR is such an amazing program--it saves lives, helps people with their real needs, and costs so much less than the endless cycle of awful cops.
Here in Denver, you're now seeing STARs vans everywhere - "Support Team Assisted Response." It's a medic and a social worker, both trained in mental health and addiction support, showing up instead of police. They offer support to homeless folks, people in crisis, and folks in altered states.

US v. Rahimi shows that a majority of the Supreme Court realized that it could apply Bruen as written, or it could not embarrass itself by having to stand by Bruen’s batshit consequences, but it could not do both My analysis out now in Balls and Strikes ballsandstrikes.org/scotus/rahim...
John Roberts Did a Very Bad Job Cleaning Up the Supreme Court’s Second Amendment Messballsandstrikes.org The Supreme Court's Rahimi opinion shows that the conservatives aren't as sure about this "history and tradition" thing as they thought.

Oh my God, I didn't realize this is literally the exact story I told in ONE NATION UNDER GOD. The Fraternal Order of Eagles was instrumental in spreading these Ten Commandments monuments across America in the 1950s ... as part of a promotional tour with the Cecil B. DeMille epic.
Eleven Commandments. Louisiana's law mandates a specific text. Not from Exodus, or Deuteronomy, but from the Fraternal Order of Eagles. They used a KJV-sounding pastiche adapted from the Bible and paraphrased by a Minnesota juvenile court judge in the 1950s. It's not the Bible. It's the Eagles.

Mad that a bit of carefully selected powder that washes of in rain is vandalism of our valued heritage, but every time some listed building 'accidently' collapses whilst developers are stood next to it, or our rivers gets filled with shit it's 'whoopsie, never mind'.

A modest proposal for Americans in states where data centres are using up all your energy and your water Can you require them to provide cooling centres as a condition of being allowed to operate? Might make them look elsewhere, at least

So, polls have completely left the arena and jumped the shark. We’re all done with polling because it’s no longer useful, since the dataset they trained on was itself so inconsistent and full of holes that it’s not reliable. Great news, everyone! The End of Horse Race Journalism is HERE!

I need to write about how the racist history of pop/rock music formats for radio offends me not just as a person who opposes racism but as a person who likes pop/rock music. You, yes you, have heard a smaller amount of good music because of racism than you would have otherwise.
The Song of the Summer Is Actually the Song of 1982slate.com Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” is one of several recent hits bringing back the genre that never got a name.

This observation is at the root of the problem with the Turing Test: Computers only pass the test because people are good at filling in the gaps People are shit at conversations. Transcriptions of real people talking sound unhinged A piece of long-form writing or an image? Instant uncanny valley
I just can’t stop thinking about how much less data a human brain needs to build the necessary patterns for complex language and creativity. Like how can a machine read every scrap of digitized human existence and still not know how to write a coherent paragraph?

This 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ Pride Month 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍🌈 it’s worth remembering that the arrests at the Toronto kiss-in happened only 48 years ago. This is Ed Jackson and Merv Walker. They were arrested for the crime of kissing passionately at the corner of Yonge and Bloor.
