I watched the original B&W film as a small boy and even at that tender age, l understood that obvious point. The scene with the little blind girl is a dead give away (and very touching) Read the book many years later.

Tbqh, i know the book has the monster be a victim but i also didn’t like the monster in the book & thought the story was stupid. the universal movie is awesome tho

What is wrong with them? Clearly the monster views himself as the victim which is his side of the story.

Besides the point because the Sun obviously did not do the reading, while he IS misunderstood, he does murder a bunch of people. I'd like to submit my hot take that it's actually an early entry in the "disturbed child has murderous powers" subgenre of horror.
