MoM ann. % changes for revised and unrevised series. Not much to note other than I think a slightly stronger case now for sustained downward momentum in Supercore, itself driven almost entirely by rent. cc @wertwhile.bsky.social
No real change to core CPI before/after CPI seasonal revisions released this morning. June/July prints tweaked up but more recent data basically the exact same.

I thought this was persuasive from Sam Issacharoff that it is a reasonable argument and these questions are a lot tougher than people give them credit for www.justsecurity.org/91009/old-co...
If I had to guess, I would say that the easiest out for the Supreme Court is that Section 3 is not self-executing and Congress has to consciously bar people. That way it’s not their problem.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act are huge climate policies, and the evidence is pouring in that they are good.

My slides for a presentation on the evolution of the inflation debate since 2021, and the case for 2023's disinflation being supply-side driven, that I gave at IEA this past week. Some fun stuff for both newbies and veterans of the past three years. www.mikekonczal.com/IEA_presenta...

I mean this genuinely, I wish the White House had picked her up on Air Force One and flown her to another state. Maybe Biden would have been impeached for it.
How is what Ken Paxton has done to to Kate Cox not a top, if not the top story in our country right now?

The economist way of putting the things described in this piece I think would be: official statistics are doing a poor job of hedonic adjustment in the service sector, which have seen declining quality for a number of reasons.

Same thing but I've z-scored Demand-Driven Core PCE to Core PCE so it's as if all variation in core PCE is caused by demand side shifts.

Start here. Ohio is trying to increase the threshold to 60% for ballot initiatives in august. Then we’ll have the next fight that they’re afraid we’re going to win if they threshold is 50%. https://votenoinaugust.org/
Anyone have any leads on how to help with say the Ohio abortion referendum? I need to take some action

Finally tally 149 GOP, 165 Dems.
Despite myself I think it’s just fine and permitting reform and COVID funds gets it over the line with like 150 gop and 150 Dem votes and 70 senators.

Our client is being shamed and humiliated for explicitly discriminatory reasons, and her family is being denied a once-in-a-lifetime milestone in their daughter's life. Very disappointing outcome.

watching the media adjust the way it describes abortion bans has been extremely discouraging. A 12 week ban would never have been described as ‘moderate’ a year ago. Dobbs itself was fought over the harm a 15 week ban would present for low-income patients in particular

Really nice to see George's housing charts again!
Housing data! Multifamily permits collapsing likely due to expectations of forthcoming supply + slowing rents w/ a side of credit tightening. Single family bouncing. Also check out implied completion times...supply chains normalizing fast.

The silent democratic majority.
JUST NOW: Dems HAVE flipped the mayor's office in Jacksonville, Florida. This was the most populous city with a GOP mayor anywhere in the country. No more. Donna Deegan, who faced attack ads for… simply attending a BLM rally, will be the next mayor.

There's a deal to be had without work requirements stuff in there. There's the coin if they don't give it up.
Still no real negotiation going on tbh. This is just not a realistic bargaining position. *MCCARTHY SAYS WORK REQUIREMENTS A RED LINE ON DEBT TALKS
